We can now offer our clients in Nottinghamshire EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) as a service. You may be wondering what EMDR is exactly. Well, EMDR is a a type of therapy used for individuals suffering from emotional distress; symptoms of which are often the result of experiencing trauma. That is, a disturbing significant life experience. Traumatic events can be 'big' or 'small' in nature, as what's important to remember is the extent to which they have affected the individual who has experienced it. Some of these events can even result in PTSD. However defined, trauma has a long lasting negative effect on emotional wellbeing. In order for the brain to process and recover from these events, EMDR uses eye movements (similar to the process of REM sleep) to reprocess and desensitise the individual to these particular triggering events.
You may benefit from EMDR if you have experienced or are experiencing any of the following -
PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Phobias of any kind
Panic disorder, Anxiety or Depression
Victims of crime or assault of any kind
Professionals exposed to traumatic events at work such as prison or emergency staff
Grief or loss of something or someone
Accident victims or those recovering from surgery
Somatic disorders or chronic pain
